Offensive Tackles

Full Connor Williams Scouting Report

Played more of a spread offense at Texas. Great size for an OT, his arms have great build and are long, built lower body as well.

Athletic Ability is great, has the quickness, balance and agility to be a dominant LT. His change of direction is impressive. Good mental processing, takes his opponents strength and uses it against them, understand how to adjust vs a stronger opponent or a faster opponent. Good competitive toughness, still shows effort despite a losing in a blowout, plays through pain. Great play speed, one of the first off the LOS, his kick slide speed is very fast and is capable of covering a large amount of ground. Good Play Strength, will not see an edge player bull rush him, puts a lot of force when contacting opponent. Elite Pass Blocker, keeps his square to the line, drops straight back, patient, technique is perfectly sound, will not allow much if any pressure on a QB. Great Run Blocker, will create movement, stays in front of assignment and stays engaged with him. Good gap blocker, nice job positioning his body to create a gap at the line, and at the second level he correctly identifies who to pick up. Great use of hands, does a great job keeping his hands inside and uses his strong hands to keep his opponent in control.

Not much experience as a pulling tackle. He has the speed to be used as a puller, but Texas did not use many plays where that was required. Only type of opponent that was able to get by Williams was a much faster opponent, but Williams was able to correct himself and prevent that opponent from getting passed him again. Missed most of the season with a leg injury, the medicals may be important at the combine.

Overall, Williams is going to be a top OT in the league. He will be a LT in the league for 10+ years. Will start immediately for a system that uses a zone blocking scheme.

Full Mike McGlinchey Scouting Report

Played in a run heavy offense at Notre Dame. Has great size and for a LT may need to add a little weight but it’s still solid, large lower base, overall solid build.

Athletic Ability is good, explodes off the line of scrimmage, solid lateral movement, quick in the short areas, more balanced than the average lineman. Good Mental processing, most of the time he can correctly recognize who his assignment is and communicates with his teammates on potential blitzers. Good Competitive Toughness, shows flashes of anger/nastiness by taking opponent to the ground, will play through the minor injuries. Great Play Strength, his lower body strength will win most of his matchups, won’t allow much ground, will compete vs some elite opponents. Good Pass blocking, patient, shows recovery ability, quickslides are short but quick, not a problem picking up his new assignment in a switch. Great Run Blocker, stays engaged with his opponent, and will be the one to hit his opponent first. Good gap blocker, his strength will help prevent any attempt from closing the gap, does a nice job reaching to DT on a trap. Good Use of Hands, hands work to stay inside and are very powerful. Solid puller, he will find his assignment and will stay tight to the line of scrimmage, just not much experience.

His play speed will be a problem vs the opponents who have great or Elite Speed. Pass blocking isn’t perfect, his hips will turn away from the LOS, and he will struggle with the great pass rushers who can use their bend to get around him, takes a false first step – short and wastes time. Needs to look for a next opponent if first opponent is handled, needs to be aware of the late safety blitzers. He will lose the hand battle vs violent and fast opponents.

Overall, McGlinchey is a good starter in this league. He should be reliable in the run game and in the passing game if he cleans up a couple of areas. I would like to see him in a power scheme, but inside zone would work too.

Full Martinas Rankin Scouting Report

LT for Mississippi State where a lot of inside zone runs were used. Rankin has solid height and weight, heavy lower body and solid arm length with good build.

Athletic Ability is good, quick for OL, footwork is good, nice change of direction, good overall balance. Good Mental Processing, can identify a potential blitzer pre-snap, understands when he needs to move on from his first assignment and look for the next one. Good Play Speed, shows he can be used in screens, can reach his second level block. Good Play Strength, shows a lot of force when in a matchup, rarely – if ever – loses to a 3-4 OLB in a strength battle, will win most of the matchups. Great Pass Blocker, transitions the stunts well, keeps his hips square to the LOS and his kick slide is quick, his COD will allow him to recover when an opponent shoots the inside. Good Run blocker, creates movement with his power, best when he is hitting his opponent head on, does more than just mirror his opponent. Good Gap Blocker, can be a down blocker, shows leverage and positions himself in a good spot to create/extend the gap. Good Use of Hands, keeps his hands low and inside at the POA, strong hands.

Not a nasty player, won’t see him throw players to the ground or play through the whistle. He has not much experience in pulling, so it is hard to estimate how he would do at the next level. When pass blocking, his only weakness is when an edge rusher decides to do a hard fake to the outside and then come back inside, can get a grabby when that happens. His hands tend to rise when trying to reach the second level gap.

Overall, Rankin is a good prospect. He should stay to be a LT, but I would not be shocked if a team wanted to try him at a guard because of his strength.

Full Kolton Miller Scouting Report

LT for UCLA. Very large prospect, insanely tall, but a little thin for his size, slender man arms in terms of length, needs better build overall.

Athletic Ability is great, shows quickness, fluid in hips, shows explosiveness, moves very well overall, his size makes him unbalanced at times. Good Mental Processing, identifies late blitzers and is aware of stunts. Good Competitive Toughness, shows some nasty play, will block downfield for teammate, puts opponent to the ground. Good Play Speed, can reach the 2nd level, can reach his pulling assignment, better than I originally thought, can be used in screens. Good play strength, shows his power vs the smaller opponents and plays physical. Good run Blocker, his large size will help create movement, and he has nice gap blocking especially for his down blocking ability. Can get front side. Good Puller, gets out of his stance quickly and finds his opponent, has the speed to reach his opponent.

Needs work on his pass blocking ability, struggled vs the inside moves, hips turn away from the LOS, will struggle vs speed rushers with great bend. His hand use needs a lot of work, he has been a grabber especially at the POA. Hand placement needs work, doesn’t know how to use his arm length yet. Needs to stay engaged with his opponents in Run blocking. He will have to gain more muscle. He has been really high in his stance for both pass and run blocking at times.

Overall, Miller is a RAW prospect, he has a lot of potential, but it will take awhile for him to reach that. Do not force him in early, he will need some time to adjust to the much bigger and faster opponents.

Full Brian O'Neill Scouting Report

Former TE transitioned to OT at Pitt. Great height, weight is a little light, but not too bad. Good arm length, could use better upper body build.

Athletic Ability is great, moves well in open space, shows lateral quickness at the POA, explosive first step. Good Mental Processing, identifies blitzers pre-snap, aware of stunts, unusual for him to have a miscommunication. Good Play Speed, can reach his 2nd level assignments, can be a lead blocker 20 or 30 yards down the field. Good Run Blocker, does a nice job staying engaged with his opponent and creating movement vs the below average opponents. Good Gap Blocker, nice down-blocker, has the footwork to position himself for the gap especially at the second level. Good Puller, his explosive first step allows him to get out of his stance quickly giving him more time to find his assignment and he will reach that opponent with his play speed. If a trick play is ever needed, he is the Offensive Lineman to target.

Not much of a nasty player, but he is a willing blocker and will dive if needed. Still in the transition stages of becoming a tackle, so he is still working on his upper body strength as well as his core strength. He has and will continue to struggle vs the Big Ends. During the season his pass blocking looked good, but he took a step backwards at the Senior Bowl. Technique looked off and awkward, was too far forward with his upper body, will struggle with true speed rushers. His use of hands needs work, grabs a lot, needs more power punches, his timing was inconsistent throughout the year.

Overall, O’Neill has work to do, but he could be a solid prospect. I believe he would be best suited as a RT. Likelihood is that he will improve his pass blocking ability down the road and maybe then he could become a LT if needed.

Full Orlando Brown Scouting Report

Played LT at Oklahoma in a spread offense. A very large prospect, his height is ridiculous at 6’8” and has the weight at 345. Long arms, large lower body and good overall build.

Athletic Ability is marginal, possibly the worst showing I have ever seen at the Combine by an OL, needs to improve quickness, hip flexibility, lateral movement, no explosion, feet are heavy. Good Competitive Toughness, some nasty in his game, shows effort to go hit his opponent on a WR screen – would dive if needed, a player who will stick up for his teammates and say or do something to the opponent. With Great size comes Great Strength, will dominate his opponents, will have pancake blocks, would be a rare to see him lose a matchup based on strength. Good Pass Blocker, he does not let anything get by him via the inside, the only way to beat him is by going outside, patient, solid footwork, will stonewall the average opponent. Great Run Blocker, will create a bunch of movement vs opponents who are directly in front of him, at the second level he can run over the smaller LB – if he is in the right position. Great Gap Blocker, creates the gap by turn his body horizontally from the LOS and pushes his opponent out. Good Use of Hands, will use his large arms and hands to keep the opponent away, improved vs fast pass rushers and will now keep his hands inside.

Needs to have better understanding of situations, if a teammate already has an opponent handled, there is no need for a double team – should look for second assignment. Do not expect him to be a fast lineman. A very large OT who will have trouble reaching the second level, may struggle vs the speed rushers. His speed does affect his pulling ability, and he comes a little too wide from the LOS when pulling.

Overall, Brown’s ceiling has been in question with his marginal athletic ability. I’m not sure how well he can perform vs the Elite speed rushers in the NFL with that level of athleticism. If he can work on that, perhaps he could become a good starter in the league.

Full Chukwuma Okorafor Scouting Report

LT at Western Michigan, mainly a zone scheme. Very large player, Great height and weight, long arms with a lot of mass, above average waist. Big lower body.

Athletic Ability is solid, a very balanced lineman. Needs to improve his lateral quickness, explosiveness too, needs to work on being able to move his body fluidly. Good Competitive Toughness, a player who will dive to make a block if needed, plays through the small injuries. Elite play strength, rarely if ever loses a matchup because of strength, wins consistently, incredible upper body strength. Good pass blocker, better when facing opponents in a 5 tech, nice first step, good recovery when opponent tries the inside. Good Run Blocker, his Elite strength will allow him to create movement. Good Gap Blocker, nice angle blocks, extends the gap.

Should learn the game more, forgets teammates responsibility – getting in the way, doesn’t know what to do after his first matchup, doesn’t work to the next opponent – just stands around. His speed will force him to struggle to reach the second level or reach front side of down blocks for stretch plays, loses vs fast opponents. Doesn’t have the speed to be a long puller. His use of hands need a lot of work, needs to keep them inside, hands are heavy but are low, he will be called for many Holding calls.

Overall, Okorafor is a good prospect. I would like for a team to move him to RT or guard because he hast the strength but not the speed. I’d like to see him in a gap/man blocking scheme.

Full Jamarco Jones Scouting Report

LT at Ohio State, a zone blocking scheme. Received all-conference honors last season. Solid height and weight, arm length appears to be longer than average, larger waist, good lower body build.

Solid Athletic Ability, has some quickness, but at the combine he really underperformed. Didn’t show much explosiveness or hip fluidity that was expected. Good Mental Processing, aware of stunts, knows who is blitzing and who is not. Good Competitive Toughness, doesn’t coast, does his job and more, will dive to make a block, doesn’t give up when missing a block. Great Play Strength, absolutely destroys smaller opponents, wins consistently, rare to see him lose a matchup. Great Run Blocker, strength helps him create great movement, can be a mauler if moved inside, stays engaged with his opponent. Good gap blocker, can reach his down blocks. Good Puller, picks up correct assignment, can reach short pulls, stays close to his pull line.

He will struggle vs the elusive opponents, he doesn’t have the lateral movement to adjust to such a quick player. He needs to work on his pass blocking, will get beat inside because he opens his hips away from the LOS. His hands need to be quicker, he tries to time his punches and there are times where they are timed right, but there are plenty of times where he is late and will get beat, hands need to be placed inside more consistently vs the pass rush.

Overall, Jones is a solid prospect. I would like to see him try out guard because of his strength and run blocking ability, but if not, RT should be his focus. Should stay in a zone blocking scheme to make it the easiest transition.

Full Tyrell Crosby Scouting Report

LT for the spread offense of Oregon. Very large tackle, great height, has the weight to match, has the width needed for leverage, large lower body. Huge hands with great arm length.

Athletic Ability is solid, helped himself at the combine, on film he looked a tight in the hips, didn’t show much quickness, and his change of direction needs to improve. Great Competitive Toughness, has a nasty play style, puts opponents through the ground, plays well beyond the whistle, high motor. Great Play Strength, uses his large size very well, great core strength that helps him with his overall balance, demolishes the smaller competition, rare for him to lose a battle because of strength. Good Run Blocker, creates a lot of movement when blocking N-S, stays engaged with his opponents. Good Gap Blocker, when he does not have to reach front-side, he will have a big part of creating gaps, has the leverage to do so.

Needs to be more aware on when to go pick up a different opponent if the first is handled. Lacks in speed, difficult for him to reach his 2nd level assignment, will struggle vs speedy players. Pass blocking needs work, footwork is atrocious, seen him cross his feet, not going to be able to mirror his opponents, his hips do not stay square to the LOS. He can be an effective short puller – finds the correct assignment, but he does not have the speed to be used for long pulls. Almost every snap I watched of him, his hands were always placed outside and would grab the shoulder pads. His hands are heavy and has a solid punch, but it doesn’t matter if he’s called for holding.

Overall, Crosby is a solid prospect. He has a lot of tools to become a starter in the league, but for the time being I only see him as a back-up player. I would like to see him in a power running scheme. This would allow him to use his strengths more.
